My Week So Far...

I haven't done much this week, Monday we had a little storm and Sam was home sick, I started sewing a shirt I am making.

Tuesday; I fell down my staircase for like the 6th time. Almost one year ago I fell down them and broke my ankle so this time I am so glad I just pulled my main thigh muscle. I have been icing it and elevating, I had to skip 2 runs so far and I am feeling much better. I may try to run tonight but take it easy and do just 2 miles.

Wednesday; I took the kids grocery shopping at Walmart with my friend Rachel and her kiddos, taking four children under the age of 5 to Walmart together is always a interesting experience. There was lots of running, yelling and wrestling but I guess that means we had lots of fun......at Walmart (crazy I know).

I bought a butternut squash at Safeway the other day and attempted  "squash-potatoes" as a low-carb alternative to the real deal...not great.
So there I am with a boatload of pureed butternut squash, I decided to make a faux-pumpkin pie (low carb) with it. The batter was really yummy but when it baked up, no bueno. It may be the worst pie ever...seriously.

So far this week I have learned a few things; I need a house with no stairs, butternut squash isn't my favorite, Babies really do love to play in boxes and I need a new sewing machine because mine isn't powerful enough and likes to mess up randomly.

My First 5K

I had a tough time sleeping last night, I was full of anticipation for the 5k but I finally fell asleep. I woke up and got ready, had a banana, some water and got some Starbucks. We got there about 10 minutes before the start (my fault) and man I was nervous.

There were 111 runners both men and women all lined up on the start track, they were fit and toned in places I have never seen real people toned in and all decked out in runners attire. I found Shannon (my sis-in-law) and her co-worker in the crowd and started with them. We went off with a bang, and I ran at a faster pace than I am use to starting at, as to not get trampled. I slowed down a bit to find my stride and just ran and ran. I kept getting passed, that was discouraging and I was sure I was falling to the end of the pack and I would surely be last. I got to the halfway point turn around and started to run back and realized there were a lot of people behind me, that made me want to push harder. I really wanted to walk at certain points because my legs were burning but I made myself keep going, I came there to run and I was going to run.

I passed Sam and the boys towards mile 3 and Ethan yelled "Good job Mama!" I was proud he got to see me doing something like this because he never has. I pushed as hard as I could and finished strong for me, 33:52 was my time. I haven't been running but about a month so I am celebrating my 33 minute time ;) I finished 68th out of 111 runners and I am feeling sore but happy and accomplished. I can't wait for my next run and my next running event.

Tomorrow is Run Day

Tomorrow I am running my first 5k and I am anxious! We went to breakfast in Tacoma this morning with our family, then headed over to down-town Olympia to pick up my number for tomorrow. I guess I'm nervous because I just don't know what to expect, this is so very new to me and I am totally out of my normal comfort zone. I am really glad Sam and the boys are coming to watch and root for me but I am also nervous about that too...What if I run funny? I have never actually watched myself run...do I run like a duck or worse..LOL. I am so comforted that my sister Shannon is doing this run too and its her first 5k as well. I am going to try to go to bed at a decent time tonight and it starts at 8am tomorrow. I will let you all know how it goes :)

Amazing and Funny Things

My little men Ethan and Luke are growing up so fast, a few amazing things (amazing to a proud mama) happened this week.

First, Luke found a clean baby wipe in the living room and tried to wipe of dogs behind with it. He didn't; he tried to but Ella looked at him like her was making he nervous and scampered away. I was shocked he knew dogs had butts!

Secondly; Luke said "button." When Sam gets home from work everyday Luke crawls to him and Sam picks him up and Luke points at the buttons on his shirt and Sam says "button." Well, Thursday Luke said it back..clear as day! I was so proud of him.

Ethan and I have story time every night before he goes to bed, its my favorite time with my little man. He asks great and funny questions and its great to watch his imagination run wild. We were reading a book called, The Rooftop Rocket Party that we borrowed from the Library and he read two whole words by himself! Moon and Sun were the words I was really excited about that. Ethan also read the words "Double Jump" when playing Xbox with Sam...HAHA.

We are big Star Wars fans in the Morris house. Recently Ethan watched all of the movies and he loves Lego Star Wars on Xbox. We bought him a little light up candy lightsaber and he loves to go around pretending to fight like a Jedi with it. Luke picked it up today and started making lightsaber noises and waving it around like a Jedi too! The nerd in me was so proud in that moment ;)

I just love watching them grow and thrive, I am just so proud of my guys! On a side note, I signed up for that 5K next Sunday. I am training hard so I can run it without walking, I can do 2.5 miles non-stop so hopefully I'll be able to do the extra .6 before next Sunday.

To Run Or Not To Run

I am debating running a 5k next weekend, Its the Puget Sound Classic and I am just feeling a bit mixed. I have been having some knee and ankle problems the last week and have had to cut my training from daily to every-other-day so they can heal up. I am convinced it is a shock absorption issue with my current New Balances which are for trail and street running; I think I need a pair solely for pavement/gravel running . I think I need to go to a running shop and have them figure it out. So I don't know if I am ready yet to run the whole thing but I may try depending on my knees. My sister and brother-in-law are moving to Oregon that day too; we are helping them move so I have to figure out the times of everything to see if its even possible.

Lately Luke and Ethan have been playing so well together, Sam and I were worried that wouldn't happen because of the age gap between them. We tried for a long time to get pregnant with Luke and it took us years, we wanted them closer together but God had other plans. I caught a picture today of Luke playing on Ethan's little ride on truck, too cute.

Today I made eggs for breakfast as to start my day off right ;) When I cracked the first egg what did I see? TWO YOKES!!!! Totally weird right! I Googled them to see if they were safe to eat and they were, so I did; they were twice as yummy. However it grosses me out thinking about them now.

New Phones and Soup

I made fantastic soup last night from the leftover pork rib we barbecued on Saturday night. I added carrots, onions, celery, fresh corn, garlic, water, beef bouillon cubes, cilantro, pepper, rib meat and a bit of bratwurst we had also barbecued; I threw them all in the crock pot and let them simmer their way into yummy deliciousness!

My cell phone has been randomly shutting off lately, when it shuts down it wont come back on for hours. This is the fourth phone I have had since upgrading to a Android phone when I was pregnant with Luke. We have T-mobile, we have had it for like 5 or 6 years. T-mobile use to have really good customer service then last year that all went down the toilet; we signed up for our phones but no contract, we were told if we did this we could get the phones and plan we wanted and with Sam's State employee discount applied we could easily afford it. About 2-3 months into our service our bill went up drastically, like 60 bucks! When we called the told us his discount could not be used for the plan we got and that we were stuck with this new higher payment...So they lied to us, got us to sign up for something and changed the rules after. We tried to talk to managers ect. but alas no one would budge; we bided our time until our phones were paid off and now we have finally switched to AT&T! I am very excited about my new phone; it should be here today.

Busy weekend

We had a very busy and fun weekend, for that reason I haven't posted anything new.
Friday Sam's Dad and his wife Laurel came from Oregon for a visit and we went out to dinner. We had Mexican food (my fav) but unfortunately, Luke was fussy making it very hard to enjoy dinner :(

Saturday was a "Mommy Morning," I went out with my two pregnant gal pals and got a amazingly relaxing pedicure. I chose orange polish because I love orange and it gives me the warm feeling of Fall being in the air everytime I glance at my toes. After our pedis, we went to this amazing little Thai place in Olympia, I had the chicken curry with no rice and spicy level 3 (out of 4), It was divine!!!! I told Sam we have to go there on a date night for sure! After eating I went shopping and bought a cool tribal blouse and a claw bone necklace, super quirky but fun!

Saturday evening I went for my nightly run and boy it was hot, that was the sweatiest I have been since I started running. My Sister and Brother-in-law and their beautiful daughters came over for a barbecue, Sam barbecued the fish we had caught when we went to Bear Den Lodge   and pork ribs, sausage and hot dogs. We also had corn and sweet potatoes. I hate a big plate full of meat and I was full until this morning :)

Sam worked through the night on his Android app Embarkr, which will launch soon, very exciting! So I got up with the babies and he napped. Then we went to the store, had lunch and came home to a very warm house. It rarely gets hot here in Wa, when it does its miserable/ great. Great because you ache for sun; miserable because most houses have no a/c units or central air. So we turned on our million fans and its just now starting to cool down..woot! Great weekend; busy but it was really nice for me to have some time away from the kids and just relax with my friends. I really am very grateful for my husband watching both boys and doing some housework for me as well, then barbecuing dinner for everyone. I am a lucky gal!

Labor Day Beach Getaway

We had a really eventful holiday weekend, every year since moving to Washington we go to the annual Harbor Days festival in down-town Oly. We like going because its a tradition we have made and its super fun to see the local vendors and large boats. We went to the festival on Saturday and it was such a warm beautiful day.

Sunday we decided to get away for the day and finally check out one of the beaches here in Wa. We went to a popular one called Ocean Shores, it was about 2 hours from our house and Luke cried almost the entire drive.

I have to admit, although we had a great time the beach here didn't hold a candle to any I have been to in Cali. The fog was rolling in off the brown (yes brown) water when we pulled up. Even though it was a seemingly warm day, the water was too cold to swim in and the water seemed to come at you from numerous angles. It wasn't bad by any means but definitely surreal. Sam and Ethan flew a kite and it actually flew in the air this time :) Ethan and I ran from the waves as they rolled in (he loves the ocean) and Luke was pretty fussy because he has been teething :(  We went to this little restaurant Alec's by the Sea, it was amazing! I am so in love with their clam chowder...OMG.

Monday was so fun, Ethan and I had a movie date just the two of us. We went to the local theater and watched Cars 2. Since Luke has been born I rarely get to spend any one-on-one time with Ethan, so it was really great to do that; he had a blast too. After the movie, we went to Walmart together and he made sure to show me all of the Lego toys he wants for his next Birthday.

Today I took Ethan to the Library here and signed him up for a Library card, Ethan had a blast picking out books and checking them out to bring home. I have to say, it warms my heart to know how much my baby loves books.

I didn't get to go running yesterday because I had to ice my knee; I have been having some pain in it as well as my ankle so I figured better take a day off and rest. I am excited for it to cool off a bit so I can go tonight, I am really beginning to enjoy all this exercise, pushing my body out of its comfort zone has been really a great feeling. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well!

The Cidermill and Haircuts

Today we went to Lattin's Cidermill with some of my gal pals and their babies, we had a blast. The weather was ideal and the kids energy was in full force. The kids rode tricycles, played on the playground and feed the animals there. We ate lunch and played some more, then stopped into their shop for some goodies. I bought some fresh zucchini, a peach and squash for $.50 each (any size); Ethan had a chocolate doughnut with sprinkles and I had the best cherry turnover of my life,  all cooked in their bakery. The total cost....$3.50 (including the produce!)

We came home for the boys naps, Luke has been a bit feverish today; due top popping a new tooth, so he was ready to sleep. Ethan didn't want to nap so I cut his hair instead. Okay, so Ethan has the thickest hair I have seen on a 4 year old and when its long it looks like a plant on his head. Ethan also hates haircuts so he bargained with me, no clippers only scissors and he was game,; reluctantly I agreed. Ethan looks like such a young man with his new haircut :(

I went for a run after dinner and pushed it to 2.4 miles today even though I was sore and didn't even feel like running in the first place. I feel proud of myself for pushing through the aches and pains, I am trying to keep my eye on the overall picture; To run a 5k or any other race/marathon ect. you have to train and this is how to become a runner. So I am going to do it, unless my legs fall off, which right now I am thinking they may ;) Also, Luke bashed the bridge of my nose with my cell phone, and apparently he has quite an arm on him, because even with full makeup on you can still see my bruise LOL ...at least it helped somewhat.
